Clara Voce is a 4-channel live performance piece that exposes the secret music in voices using granular synthesis. Realtime visuals generated in Processing. A modified GameTrak video game controller is used to control aspects of the audio and live visuals.
Crater Lake Artist-in-Residence Program - Fall 2015
Steve was selected as the Artist in Residence at Crater Lake National Park for the Fall 2015 season. He will spend 9 days in the park collecting sound and images from every corner of the park. This content will be used in live performance/fixed media pieces to be debuted in November 2015.
Steve will be giving a public talk/demonstration of his work on Saturday, September 5th, 2015. Check in at the visitor center for more details.
Steve Joslin is a Percussionist, who performs and composes in Algorithmic, Electronic, and Progressive Rock genres. His work ranges from meditative to visceral and incorporates technology in interesting ways.
Steve earned a BFA in Performing Arts Technology and MA in Media Arts from the University of Michigan in 2011 & 2013. Currently, he is completing work towards a DMA in Music Performance - in Data-Driven Instruments at the University of Oregon.
Steve performs live as a solo artist, ensemble drummer, performer/composer in small dance groups as well as with his band. He is an equally talented visual artist employing 2D and 3D animations and visual effects that are both generated live and interact with his audio compositions. In one of his more popular pieces, “Colour Obscura”, Steve generates colours from an iPhone that are sent to an application he developed that creates music from the colours as well as captivating visuals - in real-time.
